I, too, have often thought to myself, “I’m about to go all Britney 2007 up in here (my head)….I even thought, in that same moment, “shaved head and all”—it makes sense & is so goddamn freeing!!!!” Hang in there, Momma. That Babe will be walking in your shoes (instead of chewing on them) in no time. You (and Britney—any year) are brave and moving through a powerful lump of experiences and emotions. ❤️
This was brave and thank you for sharing! I especially love your acknowledgment with regards to women of colour. As women, we are often gaslighted by those who are uncomfortable with our emotions. It takes a lot to stand in your feelings and own them and acknowledge them, to give them space to just be and recognize that they too like your laughter has value! Again, thank you for sharing and while I know this sounds cliché it is true, 'This too shall pass'.
My takeaway, inspired by the video but perhaps not directly their idea, is that the forces that prevent us from having space to feel and return to ourselves are different across ethnic/racial lines given our different locations within systems of oppression, but every individual suffers in different ways. For folks racialized as white, that means our ancestors have made the choice to forfeit some aspect of community, belonging, responsibility to others, in order to secure privilege/prestige/security in an oppressive system. There is a massive loss in that forfeiture that is largely unnamed and unseen.
Under this idea, assimilation into an oppressive system is like selling your soul, which gets passed down generationally. That's something to mourn and heal from. That is not taking away from the tragedies that anyone else has experienced due to their difference in location in systems of oppression. It is a collective task to heal and seek liberation from these systems that harm us all.
So good! My son is 4 and we are still attached at the hip. I hope your girl gives you some peace soon!
I mean, I do love it though- on the one hand, I would like a little peace but then I also don't because I'm obsessed with her.
I get it!! I miss him when he's sleeping 🤣

Wishing you peace of mind, heart and spirit 🤍🤍
To the point about numbing ourselves and not having space to feel, and how that shows up cross culturally -- I'm reminded of this clip (there's a series!) by Leah Manaema (account co_cu1tur3) on insta https://www.instagram.com/reel/C5-mL_nR63v/?igsh=MXM0bmFsMDBiaXIzdA==

I quote “My baby has just started crawling and wants to put my shoes in her mouth 98 per cent of the time.”
It is because looking from his eye level, only shoes are visible!
I have started keeping shoes above on higher rakes and kept his toys on floor.
Haha of course!! Thank you Sandeep!
haha thank you Jorie!!
